During the course of making pinholes and films I stay in a few places that I think you might like to know about. This month's review focuses on Beck Hall B&B which can be found in the village of Malham, Yorkshire, a beautiful part of England that's perfect for walkers and photographers. Below the review you can find other reviews from previous months. Beck Hall, Malham - Beck Hall, Cove Road, Malham, North Yorkshire, BD23 4DJ - Tel : 01729-830332 - alice@beckhallmalham.com Beck Hall was built in 1710 and has been providing bed and breakfast accomodation since the 1930's. It's located in the village of Malham, not far from Skipton and Bolton Abbey. Here's what the inside of the place looks like...
The open fire in the Communal area was always alight, and the bar was operated on an honesty system, which means you took what you wanted, wrote down what you took in a log book and paid up at the end of your stay. It's nice to be trusted like this; I've not come across the system here in England before (although it's common enough in Africa). The rooms were comfy and warm, the floorboards creaked nicely and there was a tapestry on the wall - never had that before either, usually it's just a print of an old master. The breakfast was ok, whatever you wanted from the cereal and fruit buffet plus a cook-up of your choice - fish, full English or vegetarian, and served quickly by the very friendly staff. Another thing I liked about the staff apart from their friendliess was the fact that they knew when to leave you alone, in fact, you wouldn't have known they were there until you wanted them, when they were easily found. The area around abouts is a walkers paradise, and often walkers have dogs, so it's lucky that Beck Hall is very dog friendly...
Almost every guest had a dog, and they were allowed to wander as they wanted, except in the breakfast room - if you wanted your dog to join you at the table, you had to request to be served in a seperate room.
